It's Time to Start Thinking About . . .

Mid-July seems far away on this Ground Hog’s Day, 2017, but the time will pass by quickly, as it always seems to do, and before we know it, the sun will rise over the waters of the Mississippi River on July 15th, when sleepy-eyed writers will emerge from their hotel rooms, automobiles, or planes, ready to embark on the adventure of the fourth annual All Write Now! Writers’ Conference in Cape Girardeau, Missouri.

Some may have risen well before the sun, driving that summer morning to arrive in time for breakfast, accompanied by a much-welcomed cup of joe. Perhaps the night before, others greeted fellow writers in the lobbies of their motels, shared stories of both accomplishment and rejection, the likes of which only writers know, and by day’s end, became fast friends. Illustrators will come to learn from each other, network, and compete as All Write Now! hosts its first illustrators’ portfolio contest!

Whether a drive across town, through Missouri’s scenic state and beyond, or by air (adventurous souls can come close to Cape Girardeau by rail, or, if timed properly, even by river boat!), attendees will come together for a common writing experience that has the potential to change the course of their writing careers!

Each will partake in All Write Now! in his own way, through a day filled with numerous opportunities – a critique to perfect that special work that is nearly ready to pitch to agents; the pitch itself, for those ready to take the plunge; a master class to finally move forward on that major endeavor; or an anonymous hearing of their own words through the popular, yet daunting, Slush Pile event, where the brave seek feedback from professionals in a large-group setting. All this is in addition to the varied topics of relevant workshops presented by yet another outstanding assemblage of faculty.

For now, though, it’s still February, and looking ahead to July means committing now to reserve the weekend of July 15th (Conference) and 16th (Master Classes). Punxsutawney Phil may have seen his shadow today, but we know that, winter weather or not, spring is just around the corner, and that’s one season closer to All Write Now! 2017! So, mark your calendars, spiff up your writings, and plan for another quality-filled conference along the banks of the Mississippi River!
